What would be the best engine block to build a good high torque engine?
I’m a student working to become a technition and I want to build an engine eventually. I was wondering what would be a good foundation for a High Torque engine. I was thinking somthing I could slap a turbo on and stuff along those lines. I was told to try to find a rear wheel drive chassis becuse I would have a little more room to work with under the hood. And suggestions or past experiences? I’m thinking more about racing on a corse more then the quater mile. should I go big? I’m not sure yett, I’m still somewhat new to all of this basides what I have allready learned and what I have learned from my car. anything and everything will be appreciated.
Racing engines are series specific. In other words each racing series and class has specific rules for their engines. The rules include engine size, modifications allowed and whether power adders such as turbo’s are allowed. You really can’t just build an engine and find a place to race it. Most series have some kinds of cost cutting limitations on compression, intake, rpms etc.
It’s best to find a place to race and use their rules to build your engine. In general it is much better to choose an engine that is popular rather than a little used and modified engine. Stick with the Chevy and Ford (maybe Dodge) for V-8s and popular 4 cylinder engines that have a large knowledge base of information and lots of aftermarket racing parts. Rear wheel drive is lots better in a Race Car although the series you choose will determine that.
A properly set up turbo will have lots of torque on just about any engine but you must choose one with a strong block, crank and lots of head bolts.
Sorry I can’t be more specific but maybe this will give you some ideas.
Good Luck. Don’t let jealous people and haters deter you. Follow your dream.
